No man is an island. We're designed to be around other people. Being in a community makes us the best version of ourselves - we can accomplish more together than alone. More importantly, in an emergency situation being able to communicate with others can be the difference between life and death: What direction is the fire moving? Is there another wave of storms moving in … [Read more...] about How to Die: Lose Comms
Getting Started as a Prepper
Many people think that prepping is hard, expensive, and requires a complete lifestyle change. The reality is getting started as a prepper is easy, cheap, and low-impact.
There are several shortcuts that make it easy to get started as a prepper. One huge shortcut is that the things you need to consider for one type of emergency will probably help with other types of emergencies. In other words, prepping for one emergency actually helps you prepare for many other emergencies.
Another trick to get started prepping is to look at what you already have on-hand and what you normally buy. There isn't any need to go out and buy a lot of expensive equipment, exotic food, or tons of guns.
At Preppermill, we start with the basic things - the things that will get you if you're not prepared. These are:
- Shelter
- Water
- Food
- Safety
- Health
- Transportation
- Grid
- Communication
- Finances
- Mental Health

When these systems are working, you can … [Read more...] about How to Die: Lose the Grid
Basic Emergency Preparation – Transportation

Being stuck and unable to get where you want to get is no bueno in NORMAL times. Now imagine that you're stuck in an emergency. Not only do you have the normal 'this sucks' vibe going on because you're stuck, but now you throw … [Read more...] about Basic Emergency Preparation – Transportation
How to Die: Get Stuck in a Dangerous Place
You typically want to be able to leave a dangerous situation. We'd rather shelter in place if it's safe, but you might need to put distance between you and danger to get home or get to the next safe place. As we've discovered in other posts, 'dangerous situation' is a pretty loosely defined term, so some examples may be handy: Getting away from a forest fire in … [Read more...] about How to Die: Get Stuck in a Dangerous Place
